VESL Class Information -


New Student Register

1. Advanced ESL Level -
This is an advance ESL class level for students who wish to improve their English, job skills, and prepare for their next learning level. Please allow yourself three weeks to understand this class. Organization is everything.

2. Managed Enrollment
Students enrolled in this class are required to attend each class. Students will only have 5 +1 absent days before they will be dropped from the class. Please inform the teacher of any absences. Please notify the teacher if you need to leave the class early and for what reason.

Monday thru Thursday: 8:30-11:15

6. Class Materials
USB Flash/Thumb Drive, Dictionary, paper, pencil

7. Computers
It is not required that you have your own personal computer. If you have a laptop, you are welcome to bring it and use it in the class. Students must provide their own Internet connection for their laptop.

8. Weekly Quiz
Every Thursday there will be a short grammar/lesson quiz. Quiz results will be posted on the VESL web page. A username and password will be given by Sensei.

9. Portfolios
Students will have their own web portfolio to track progress during the semester.

Note:
VESL students are not allowed to take the Grammar/Conversation class in the afternoon.

10. Holiday Schedule

Thursday, November 24th. - Thanksgiving (No school)

December 12 to January 5 – ESL Furlough & Winter Break. (No school)
Return on Monday, January 9th.

Monday, January 16th. – Martin Luther King, Jr. Day (No school)

Thursday, January 26th. – End of Fall Semester. Last day of VESL Class & IH/Adv.

Monday, January 30th. – Spring Semester Begins

 

 

VESL Class Requirements

1. Attendance
Sign in for every class (Sign-In)
Attendance in this class is very important. Each class will start at 8:30 every morning, Monday thru Thursday. 5 absences +1 = a drop from the class. Please noitify Sensei if you will be absent or have to leave class early.

2. Assignments
a) Complete all assigned writing activities.
b) Complete Weekly Vocabulary Homework.
c) Come each morning prepared for class.
d) Give at least two dictations for the semester on different days.
e) Complete and present a team project.
f) Complete and present an individual project.
g) Complete two CASAS testing.
h) Participate in all class related activities
i) Improve keyboarding skills to 20+wpm

j) Write two goals that you want to complete for this semester.
k) Submit/E-Mail all assignments/vocabulary homework to Sensei
l) Take all weekly quizzes with a score of 80% or better.

3. Dress
It is expected that students will follow the school dress code and dress for the workplace. Be and set the example.

4. Participation
In order to get the most learning from this class, students will be expected to participate in all of the class activities and be a helpful and supportive team member of their team.

5. You Play, You Pay (scholarship, cultural event)
It will cost you 25 cents for each of the following:
a) Cell phone rings during class (vibrate OK).
b) Speaking another language other than English without permission.
c) Late for class.
d) No sentence.
e) Leaving class early without permission

6. Maintenance
a) Students will maintain a clean work environment by removing trash and cleaning computer equipment and their workstation before leaving.
b) Your workstation should look the same as when you started.
c) Teams will be responsible on a weekly basis to check the room environment before leaving class each day.
