4. Class Materials:
Flash/Thumb Drive to save your work on the computer, pen/pencil, class notebook (if not using flashdrive).

5. Computers:
You will be using the computer to complete and submit all of your work. It is not necessary to own or have your own computer. If you have a lap top computer, you are welcome to bring it to school and use it, but there is no Internet connection with the school. You will have to provide your own connection. If you have a computer at home, you can use it to help you complete your assignments and submit your work. We use Microsoft Office for all of our work. If you don't have Microsoft Office on your personal computer you can download a free office type program from OpenOffice.org. All of your work should be saved with the extension .doc or with an Open Office format. Students are expected to improve their keyboarding skills (20 wpm) through a keyboarding program that is on the school computer.

6. Portfolios
Students will have their own web portfolio to track progress during the semester.

7. You Play, You Pay (scholarship, cultural event)
It will cost you 25 cents for each of the following:
a) Cell phone rings during class (vibrate OK).
b) Speaking another language other than English without permission.
c) Late for class.
d) No sentence.
e) Leaving class early without permission.

Thursday, November 24th. - Thanksgiving (No school)

December 12 to January 5 – ESL Furlough & Winter Break. (No school)
Return on Monday, January 9th.

Monday, January 16th. – Martin Luther King, Jr. Day (No school)

Thursday, January 26th. – End of Fall Semester. Last day of VESL Class & IH/Adv.

Monday, January 30th. – Spring Semester Begins



Class Requirements


1. Attendance:
All students are expected to attend and be prepared for each class at 12:00 noon. Please notify teacher of absence. After five +1 absences, your name will be removed from the class list. Complete Attendance Policy. It will cost you 25 cents if you're late. Write your sentence on Sensei's computer for attendance.

2. Assignments:
Students will complete all assigned assignments and submit/e-mail to the teacher by Thursday.
A) Grammar activity sheets (do not submit) Grammar Writing Assignments (Submit)
B) Write one new sentence each day. The sentence will change each day depending on the day.
C) All assignments are due on Thursday, unless notified by Sensei. Late papers will be marked Late.
D) Each student will write two goals they want to complete during this semester.

3. Homework: It is expected that students will spend some time at home practicing the grammar and writing their paragraph. You should plan at least one hour to study and practice your English. The Vocabulary homework is due each Thursday.

4. Weekly Quiz: There will be a quiz every Thursday. Sensei will assign a username and password. Quiz results will be posted on the Grammar/Conversation web site.

5. Participation: Students will participate in all class activities and be a helpful team member. Sensei will assign you to a team.

6. Maintenance: Students will maintain a clean & neat work area (computer screen, keyboard, trash, eraser remains) and class environment. Students will clean their work area before leaving the class. Students will also shut down their computer before leaving the classroom.
